Above & Beyond for Educators

Updated: Jul 18, 2019

ECC Day 320: “Above & Beyond for Educators”

Many educators go above and beyond their duty to serve our children, including buying school supplies, food, and clothes out of their own bank account.

Some of these educators are already living paycheck to paycheck, working a second or third job to support themselves and their family.

Some of them do not have personal health insurance because they cannot afford it.

Depending on the source, the average amount an educator spends of their own money for the above items ranges from $50 to upwards of $2,000 a year.

Like I’ve said, most of us are in this profession for the outcome, not the income.

However, I believe this is an unsustainable practice - for our overall health and financial well-being.

Not to mention, I’ve seen articles over my 6 years as a School Counselor about how our students and profession are losing some of the most passionate, innovative, solution-focused educators, because they are not receiving a livable wage.

Part of the Educator Chipotle Challenge’s (ECC’s) purpose is to lessen the out-of-pocket spending my colleagues at Da Vinci Charter Academy will take on this upcoming school year.

I wish I had the means to expand it to every educator out there, who has gone/is going above and beyond for our students.

I wish I could get rid of all the student loan debt and debt from medical expenses for EVERY HUMAN out there.

Let’s go above and beyond for educators!

One way is to #ChipInForEducation by donating to the ECC Fundraiser @gofundme OR www.educatorcc.com

In my 320th consecutive Chipotle meal, I had a burrito with brown rice, chicken, queso (it’s okay; not my jam), mild salsa, sour cream, lettuce.
